Weekend Inspiration

What I love most about this image is the artist's commitment.  This image would never exist if the artist had second guessed himself or hesitated even slightly.  Make a statement.  Take risks. Often the most beautiful part of design is the process it takes to get from the bucket to the canvas....Wouldn't you agree?

Stressful as it may be, try not to loose joy in the process of design.  After all, that's why most of it love it to begin with.

Things to Remember

Rethink the use of everyday objects to create unique designs.

Never under-estimate the value of comfort.

Add strategic pops of color to lighten the mood.

And finish it all off with a glass of this.

A fashion designer's home in a small Danish village makes a statement with bold art, oversized lighting and crisp details.

I feel like the personality of this space fully embodies the owner.  Without know anything about who she is, you get a sense of how she lives and where her passion lies.

Oversized floor lamp and industrial table lamp...how could you go wrong?!

Ok, I was about to be so completely over the chalkboard wall idea, but I'll let it slide this time, because it definitely suits the rebellious nature of this interior.

The bold graphic statements add just the right amount of attitude, supported by the stark contrasts of black and white with occasional color washes.

The discourse between the architecture, interiors, and surroundings unite seamlessly, allowing the occupant to experience the space as a complete design instead of portions of a whole. With an incredible attention to detail, impeccable ability to harvest natural light, and an overall clean aesthetic, Kengo Kuma is quickly making its way to the top of list of faves.

Introducing the insanely talented German artist, Simon Schubert.  Famous for his elaborate paper folding, there's no question about his knowledge of perspective and vanishing point.  But perhaps what's most impressive is the delicacy and care evident in each of his works.  A little mid-week inspiration...

Minimalism Done Right

The true beauty of minimalism is expressed in this private residence located in New Canaan, Connecticut.  Completed in 2010, this roughly 3800 sq. foot project was designed as an addition to a strictly symmetrical mid-century modern home.

A dramatic glass walkway links the old and new structures.

The architect's goal was to create the allusion that the old and new structures had been "fused" together by nature.

With very few walls, steel screens and carefully designed glass walkways guide circulation and frame the surroundings.

Attention to detail and materiality played a crucial role in seamlessly jointing to two structures.

Minimalism at its finest.
